They might be often overlooked but a team building day can be really beneficial to your business. For many businesses funds are tight and staff are often pushed for time and therefore spending precious hours and money on a day of team building can be seen as a waste of resources. However having recently had a team building day (the first in years, we’re ashamed to say) the team at The Lighthouse are now really feeling the benefit. We’ve also seen plenty clients come here to host such days and we’re confident that their staff has felt the benefits too.
Here’s five great reasons to host team building days, especially if (like us!) you haven’t had one in a while.
Team building days are a great opportunity to seek out any communication issues within the business and get everyone collaborating better. Especially nowadays when we’ll more often email than having a quick chat with someone! Teams that communicate better are almost always more productive and collaborative which is ultimately good for business.
Joining new teams can be tricky, whether it’s one person entering an established team or a large wave of new recruits learning to work together and with existing staff, it can take a while to blend personalities and build relationships. Getting out of the office and taking part in discussions, problem solving tasks and games is a great way to break down barriers and integrate new members. Also for a multi-site business or those with a remote workforce it allows staff to engage with those that they don’t work in a close proximity to.
No matter how beautiful your office is things can get a bit stale after a while. Working day to day in the same environment isn’t great for creativity. There are plenty of tasks and games that you can undertake at away days to get staff thinking. The Lighthouse often hosts creative businesses and we often see them undertake these offsite team building days as an opportunity to kick off new product development or generate ideas at the start of a big project.
Team building days can be great for boosting morale and for working out any issues that there may be with the team. As well as being productive, they should be fun! It can be refreshing for employees to have the opportunity to spend time with colleagues away from the regular working environment. Investing the time and energy in team buildings days shows staff that the business cares about them and their working environment.
There are lots of different tasks that can be set at team building days, but those that involve an element of problem solving, organisation and of course, team work, are always popular. These allow people to develop skills in these areas as well as management, communications and more. The company could also arrange guest speakers to add elements of training to the day.
Are you considering an offsite team building day? If so the creative environment of The Lighthouse might be the inspired choice! Contact our events team to find out more.
